The Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) Multan has produced a new kind of cotton seed, which would increase the yield of high quality cotton by 32 percent and the Punjab Seed Council has approved it for cultivation. This new cotton, CIM-496 will be initially cultivated in the Punjab province. The new long staple cotton would be of high quality which would help produce value added textile products in the country. The crop of new cotton would be ready in 160 days, which would enable the growers to go for second crop of wheat in the remaining half part of a year.

"This new crop would consume less water and would be high yielding which would be beneficial for farmers," said a release issued by the CCRI on Friday.
